Uses of REKCID-DSR (Rabeprazole Sodium 20 mg + Domperidone 30 mg SR)
1. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD):
REKCID-DSR is used to treat GERD, a condition where stomach acid flows back into the esophagus, causing heartburn, acid reflux, and discomfort.
2. Peptic Ulcers:
It helps in treating and preventing peptic ulcers by reducing stomach acid production, allowing ulcers to heal.
3. Dyspepsia (Indigestion):
This medication alleviates symptoms like bloating, nausea, and discomfort due to indigestion.
4. Nausea and Vomiting:
Domperidone in this combination helps manage nausea and vomiting by improving gastrointestinal motility.
5. Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome:
It can be used in cases of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, a condition where the stomach produces excessive acid.
Side Effects of REKCID-DSR
Common Side Effects:
- Headache:
A mild headache is a common side effect. - Dizziness:
The drug may cause dizziness, especially after the first few doses. - Dry Mouth:
Some individuals experience dry mouth while on this medication. - Nausea and Diarrhea:
Gastrointestinal disturbances like nausea and diarrhea can occur. - Flatulence and Abdominal Pain:
Mild abdominal discomfort or gas is sometimes reported.
Serious Side Effects:
- Allergic Reactions (Rare):
Symptoms like rash, itching, swelling, or breathing difficulties may occur, indicating an allergic reaction. - Severe Diarrhea:
In some cases, this medication may cause severe or persistent diarrhea, which could indicate a serious intestinal condition (Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea). - Prolonged QT Interval (Domperidone):
Domperidone may cause irregular heart rhythms or prolong the QT interval in the heart, especially in patients with pre-existing heart conditions. - Low Magnesium Levels:
Long-term use of rabeprazole may lead to low magnesium levels in the blood, causing symptoms like muscle spasms, irregular heartbeat, and seizures. - Galactorrhea or Gynecomastia (Rare with Domperidone):
Domperidone may rarely cause breast discharge (galactorrhea) or breast enlargement in men (gynecomastia) due to its effect on prolactin levels.
If any of the serious side effects occur, discontinuation and medical consultation are advised. Always follow your doctor’s advice regarding dosage and duration of use.
